A woman was killed and a man injured early Tuesday when the vehicle they were in crashed in the Oakland hills, authorities said.

The name of the woman killed was not been released. Both she and the man injured are believed to be in their 40s.

Police did not immediately say who was driving.

The crash was reported about 12:44 a.m. Tuesday on Grizzly Peak Boulevard west of Fish Ranch Road. Authorities said the vehicle the two were in went off the roadway and down an embankment some 200 feet before finally stopping.

The woman was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The nature of the man’s injuries was not immediately available.

Police traffic investigators remained on the scene several hours later.
