Briana Culberson and her family, including husband Ryan Culberson and their four kids, sons Troy, 10, Owen, 8, Hank, 2, and 21-month-old daughter Cora Rose, have quit following the ketogenic “keto” diet.
After following the low-carb, high-fat regimen for years, Briana, who previously appeared alongside mom Vicki Gunvalson on The Real Housewives of Orange County, took to her Instagram page to explain her decision, revealing that she was prompted to make a change to her family’s eating habits due to one of her sons’ medical situations.
“We had to pivot from keto to a clean, whole foods diet to help one of our sons with some new medical stuff. Our focus is on nutrient-dense, clean food. Mostly animal-based,” Briana announced to her fans and followers on Instagram on January 11, along with a meme that said it’s “pretty insane that 90% of foods in grocery stores didn’t even exist 100 years ago … and neither did 90% of the diseases.”
According to Briana, she hasn’t been sharing many of her family’s meals, which feature grass-fed meats, eggs, fruit, raw derry, organic rice, and some vegetables, on Instagram in recent weeks because there are “a lot of repeats.” And, while she’s gotten “weird criticism” about what they’ve eaten in the past, she said she’s “the healthiest” she’s been since age 16.
As RHOC fans will recall, Briana was diagnosed with lupus years ago and has faced numerous health issues in the years since.
Luckily, when it comes to her son’s medical condition, he seems to be doing well.
“My child is healing,” Briana confirmed.
“Perfection is never the goal, that’s impossible. But being intentional with our food choices is most important,” she continued. “We ordered pizza as a family last week, and all snuggled on the couch and watched football. Then most of us had gut issues for days.”
“It’s ok, it’s a process, and our focus is on our overall wellness. I will do ANYTHING for my 4 children to have a better, healthier life,” she added.
After reading her daughter’s post, Vicki responded with a supportive message.
“I’m so proud of you!” the longtime RHOC cast member wrote. “Our health is the most important thing.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County season 17 is expected to premiere on Bravo sometime in the coming months.
