Robert Mcligeyo and Glenda Madelta continued with their superlative performance to beating top seed players at the ongoing Kenya National Chess Championships at the Charter Hall, Nairobi.

In the Open Section, it was all celebration when Mcligeyo crushed out Candidate Master (CM) and top seed Ben Magana today to increase the chances of winning the title in the battle for a brand new Mazda Demio car.

Former champion Victor Ng’ani leads the section with 6.5 points followed by two-time champion Mehul Gohil on six points ahead of tomorrow’s final round.

Ngani (1925) handed the first defeat to Hugh Misiko (1785) to hand defending champion Martin Njoroge (1973) a chance to defend his title with victory over Steve Austin (1803) after losing to Misko yesterday with former champion Megul Gohil, Misiko, Njoroge and Brian Kadenge were all tied on six points.

In the ladies section for the battle of kshs 100,000, Madelta defeated Woman Candidate Master (WCM) and 2019 champion Lucy Wanjiru (1454).

Woman Fide Master Sasha Mongeli (1726) was defeated by 2017 winner and WCM Joyce Nyaruai (1699) who has taken the lead with 6.5 points.
