Below Deck Mediterranean has seen its fair share of mistakes and mishaps, but one unfortunate incident made former chief stew Hannah Ferrier go pink in the face.
While chatting with current season 10 Below Deck chief stew Fraser Olender, Hannah recalled a time when she accidentally dyed Captain Sandy Yawn’s pristine white pants and white shirt a lovely shade of pink while doing laundry during season five of Below Deck Med. It’s a mistake Hannah says production wasn’t even aware of.
“I’ll never forget I think it was like season four or season five when we were filming,” Hannah recalled to Fraser on her Dear Reality, You’re Effed podcast. “And I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone this, even production. Somebody had put the red polo in with Sandy’s white pants and white shirt.”
Hannah said she opened up the washer and quickly realized the mistake. She added that she can laugh about it now, but at the time, it was super stressful.
“Because I was so scared, instead of just going, hey, this happened, let’s deal with it. I put my back to the camera, shoved these things up my skort, and then walked out to the dock to have a cigarette,” she said.
Apparently, Captain Sandy was never the wiser as Hannah said she hid the evidence — only to soon be infamously fired for not registering her prescription valium and possessing a vape pen.
“Oh no, I think I got fired like a day or two later,” Hannah said with a laugh. “I’m like, later, f***ers!”
Though Hannah called the incident a “simple mistake,” she was “nervous” due to Captain Sandy’s intense demeanor. In fact, she believes she would have dealt with the situation completely differently if she were working with Captain Lee Rosbach.
“I’m sure if that happened with Lee that you could just go like, look, somebody has done this, don’t know who, we all kind of work in the laundry. Many apologies. Ordered you a new one. He’d but like, hey, s*** happens, you know?”
Fraser has had his own fair share of laundry mistakes this season on Below Deck. He accidentally gave Captain Lee the wrong uniform in a size too small for the “Stud of the Sea.”
Still, it seems that Fraser is just fine when he is working with Captain Lee, but he’s unsure of how he would do under the watchful gaze of Captain Sandy.
“I don’t know how well we’d work together,” he said. “I just work very well with Captain Lee.”
When asked if he would have reacted in the same way Hannah did involving her laundry mistake, Fraser said he probably would have just “owned” up to it.
Hannah didn’t buy it.
“I will give you four seasons of working with Sandy, and then I want to see if you say the same thing,” she jokingly said.
