You can smell the tantalizing curries all the way from the corner CVS Pharmacy.
Just weeks after welcoming neighborhood taqueria, Comelones Tacos, to downtown’s Theatre Square, the city of Orinda is now home to a second new restaurant, Anya’s Kitchen. The home-style Indian eatery from the owner of Anya’s Deli in Berkeley opened quietly in late December inside the former Reem’s Steaks at 70 Moraga Way. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. Check out the menu at www.anyakitchen.com.
Inside the restaurant, which is named for owner Vikram Aggarwal’s daughter, bright, upturned umbrellas hang from the ceiling and a neon pink sign above the open kitchen says swagat, which in Hindi means ‘respectfully welcome.’
Aggarwal offers a robust menu featuring 14 appetizers, including bhel puri and samosas; lamb and seafood biryanis; goat curry, chicken vindaloo, and 16 vegetarian entrees, like paneer tikka masala, mushroom makhani and Malai kofta. Don’t miss the 10 types of naan, including a coconut-and-cherry-stuffed naan. Details: www.anyakitchen.com
